American Association for Men in Nursing

Advisors

Our chapter aspires to provide a framework for students, nurses, and academic partnerships by encouraging diversity, developing servant-leaders, and building mentorship at Auburn University.

AAMN at Auburn upholds its mission in the community through education, service, fund-raising, and collaboration. Although our mission is related to advancing men’s nursing practice and health, regardless of identity, we encourage everyone’s participation and value all input as a diverse group can have the potential for the greatest change.

AAMN at Auburn provides several opportunities for networking and team building throughout the fall and spring semesters. If interested, please contact the chapter's president, Logan Patrick at clp0089@auburn.edu

Auburn Student Nurses Christian Fellowship

Advisors

Our mission is to pray for and encourage our fellow nursing students by having meetings each month to dive into God's Word together. Our guest speakers are nursing school faculty members, individuals from the community, and students who give a devotional on a topic pertaining to the nursing field.

Examples of topics addressed include managing anxiety in nursing school, dealing with the loss of a patient, preventing compassion fatigue, and many others. Our meetings begin with ice breaker games and fun discussion topics. This is a great way for pre-nursing and upper division students as well as nursing students from different cohorts to get to know each other.

At the end of our meetings, we hang around for a time of fellowship to allow members to further discuss the devotional with our guest speaker and to share prayer requests with one another.

Graduate Nursing Organization

Advisors

The Auburn University College of Nursing (AUCON) Graduate Nursing Organization provides a forum for students to socialize and promote governance of the Graduate Programs (MSN Nurse Educator, MSN Nurse Practitioner, Post-MSN Graduate Certificates, DNP, and PhD Programs).

All students are able to join with no cost to support the mission of Auburn University and AUCON. We create opportunities for professional development, promote loyalty to the profession, increase understanding and cooperation between faculty and students, and promote innovation and continuous improvement in the Graduate Programs.

At the start of the curriculum, we initiate faculty or student-led online meetings to initiate communication, participation in professional organizations, presentation/dissemination opportunities, scholarship prospects to support professional growth (e.g. conference, medical missions), and networking events.

Paws on the Plains

Advisors

TBD

Support from individuals and a private trust have helped establish an extraordinary program at Auburn University College of Nursing, the Animal-Assisted Therapy Program (AAT) in the College of Nursing, known as “Paws on the Plains” (Canines Assisting Rehabilitation and Education).

The AAT Program/Paws on the Plains gives Auburn students the opportunity to learn about animal-assisted therapy through classroom didactic teaching and hands-on clinical experiences.

The students witness what animal-assisted therapy can mean in the lives of children with learning disabilities, chronic illness, emotional issues, and anxiety and fear of treatment.

The program provides recipients and students with the therapeutic effects of animal-assisted therapy. The mission is to advance the world’s understanding of human animal bond/animal-assisted therapy through education, practice, and research.

The vision is to ensure that every person in our community, state and country has access to the benefits of animal-assisted therapy.

Student Nurses Association

Advisors

The mission of Auburn University Student Nurses Association (AUSNA) is to foster the professional development of nursing students who are prepared to lead the profession in their future career.

Guest speakers in the nursing profession help to convey the ethics and standards of the nursing profession as well as give insight into various fields within the practice of nursing.

The AUSNA supports the community through health promotion events, such as health screenings, community education efforts, and fundraisers. AUSNA hosts activities throughout the school year for students and faculty to help foster relationships, provide encouragement and guidance.

AUSNA sponsors a Mentor-Mentee program as an excellent way to connect with older students, ask questions, prepare for interviews and life as a student nurse.

The association provides opportunities for students to give back to the community, gain leadership experience, and create a connected environment at AUCON.
