Paws on the Plains
Paws on the Plains gives Auburn students the opportunity to learn about animal-assisted therapy through classroom didactic teaching and hands-on clinical experiences.

Support from individuals and a private trust have helped establish an extraordinary program at Auburn University College of Nursing, the Animal-Assisted Therapy Program (AAT) in the College of Nursing, known as “Paws on the Plains” (Canines Assisting Rehabilitation and Education).
The AAT Program/Paws on the Plains gives Auburn students the opportunity to learn about animal-assisted therapy through classroom didactic teaching and hands-on clinical experiences.
The students witness what animal-assisted therapy can mean in the lives of children with learning disabilities, chronic illness, emotional issues, and anxiety and fear of treatment.
The program provides recipients and students with the therapeutic effects of animal-assisted therapy. The mission is to advance the world’s understanding of human animal bond/animal-assisted therapy through education, practice, and research.
The vision is to ensure that every person in our community, state and country has access to the benefits of animal-assisted therapy.
