Curriculum

Auburn University’s College of Nursing offers flexible, rigorous undergraduate pathways designed to prepare students for professional nursing roles in a variety of health care settings.

Each program combines evidence-based coursework with hands-on clinical experiences, fostering critical thinking, cultural competence, and leadership skills. Whether entering nursing for the first time or advancing an existing career, students benefit from a curriculum that emphasizes patient-centered care and lifelong learning.

Traditional Pathway

Students begin by completing pre‑nursing coursework (requiring a grade of C or higher and a professional‑program GPA of at least 2.0), then apply—typically in their sophomore year—via a holistic review. Upon admission, they enter the upper‑division nursing curriculum with classroom, lab, and clinical experiences to prepare for professional practice.

Concurrent Pathway

This pathway allows students enrolled in an associate degree in nursing (ADN) program who have completed all prerequisites (with C or better and minimum GPA of 2.5) to take Auburn BSN courses concurrently with their ADN coursework. The program is structured to be completed in six semesters, culminating in the BSN one semester after ADN completion.

RN-BSN Pathway

For licensed RNs holding an ADN who have met prerequisites and maintained a current, unencumbered RN license, this professional program admits students each semester and is designed to be completed in three semesters. The coursework emphasizes leadership, evidence-based practice, and quality patient care outcomes.

Advising

Pre-nursing students are assigned an advisor that will guide and support them throughout all four years of the program.
