Auburn Mayor Ron Anders signs proclamation celebrating National Apprenticeship Week

It’s National Apprenticeship Week, and we are excited to celebrate our nurse apprenticeship program and the success of our nurse apprentices! In recognition of this special week, Auburn Mayor Ron Anders signed a proclamation declaring April 26 through May 2, 2026, as National Apprenticeship Week in the City of Auburn.

In 2022, AUCON partnered with East Alabama Health and became the first university in the nation to offer a Student Nurse Apprenticeship Program. Through the program, students gain hands-on patient care experience, one-on-one mentorship from experienced nurses, and meaningful clinical exposure, all while earning a paycheck and receiving tuition assistance.

From rounding on Med-Surg and Labor & Delivery units to building clinical confidence in the Emergency Department, nurse apprentices bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world care.

National Apprenticeship Week is a nationwide celebration of the success and value apprenticeships bring in strengthening the economy by helping to develop a highly skilled workforce to meet industry needs.

AUCON is proud to be a pioneer in creating and maintaining a successful Nurse Apprenticeship Program. Pictured with Mayor Ron Anders are Hope Carroll and Hadley Stewart, who along with Abby Bell are AUCON’s apprenticeship coordinators.
