Meet Alexandra Feemster

Alexandra Feemster, a native of Richmond, Va., holds both Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degrees from Auburn University College of Nursing (AUCON).

Her decision to attend Auburn was influenced by her sister's experience at the university. “Her recommendation, along with the campus environment and appealing atmosphere, motivated me to pursue my education at Auburn,” said Feemster.

She joined the teaching faculty as an assistant clinical professor in fall 2025. Known for her passion for nursing education, Feemster continues to make AUCON her professional and personal home.

Feemster’s teaching philosophy centers around the constructivist approach, encouraging students to actively build knowledge through environmental interaction and self-reflection. As a member of the clinical track faculty, she emphasizes that this philosophy is the foundation of many nursing courses. Feemster is enthusiastic about teaching Clinical Judgement 2 to undergraduate students and has also “enjoyed leading the Trauma Elective in the past.”

Her primary goal for students is to ensure they understand the differences between acute and chronic conditions, as well as develop a strong conceptual framework for treating clients in acute care settings. “I hope my students leave my course feeling intelligent and confident,” she added, along with the empowering message she consistently promotes in her classroom.

Feemster is actively involved in interdisciplinary collaboration, most notably through her work with the Alabama Head Injury Foundation. She helps host the Traumatic Brain Injury camp each spring, an initiative that brings together participants from various colleges within Auburn University and the surrounding academic community.

“With both my mom and sister working as nurses, the medical field was a constant presence in our household growing up. My mom, in particular, has always stood out to me as an exceptional nurse — her strong, caring relationships with her patients inspired me deeply. Seeing the positive impact she made on others motivated me to pursue a career where I could touch lives in the same meaningful way,” she stated.

Feemster’s roots at Auburn run deep, both personally and professionally. She met her husband during their freshman year at Auburn University, and together they cherish their three-year-old Weimaraner, Riley. In recent years, her parents relocated from Virginia to join them, and her sister also serves as a nursing professor in the area. Enjoying a supportive family life, Feemster describes Auburn as always being home. The Feemster family are devoted Auburn fans — War Eagle!
