Meet New Faculty Member, Carlie Hunt

Updated: Apr 6

We’re excited to introduce Carlie Hunt who began her teaching journey with the College of Nursing (AUCON) this summer as an assistant clinical professor. She brings a wealth of experience and passion to AUCON, having earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Emory University’s Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing and a master’s degree in nursing education from Auburn. Her background includes work as a clinical instructor with Berry College Division of Nursing and as a clinical associate with AUCON. She is thrilled to continue her teaching career with the college. This fall, she’ll be teaching in the Clinical Judgement 1 and Health Assessment courses.

Hunt’s enthusiasm for AUCON is evident when she says, “there is a passion for the mission, vision, and culture at AUCON that is the driving force behind the hard work and excellence seen in everyone that works here.” She appreciates the dedication of the faculty, staff, and students and values the opportunity to contribute to the AUCON community.

Her teaching philosophy emphasizes a collaborative and student-centered approach, aiming to promote engagement, active learning, and critical thinking. She encourages her students to adopt a holistic perspective on patient care and understand the “why” behind nursing interventions.

“The students here are bright and enthusiastic about learning. I was thrilled to help students apply their classroom knowledge and skills to the hospital setting while caring for patients. In addition to teaching in the clinical setting, I enjoy teaching any course related to adult health, pathophysiology, and pharmacology as they help students understand the reasoning behind clinical conditions, treatments, and nursing interventions.”

Hunt aims to foster students’ confidence in clinical knowledge and skills, highlighting the importance of respect, leadership, advocacy, teamwork, and inquiry. “I want to encourage students to ‘think like a nurse’ to help them see the bigger picture of patient care and understand that nursing is complex, not one-dimensional,” she added.

Her research interests include best practices in nursing education, adult health, geriatric care, and evidence-based practice. Hunt is enthusiastic about getting involved in outreach opportunities with AUCON, such as the EAH mobile clinic and the REACH Community Respite Program.

Outside the classroom, she enjoys spending time with her family and two rescue dogs, as well as engaging in outdoor activities such as soccer, horseback riding, and rock climbing.

We’re delighted to welcome Carlie Hunt to AUCON!
